Capturing healthcare workers' COVID experiences: subject of WHSC webinar

Healthcare workers on the frontlines of COVID-19 have unique insights about working during this pandemic, lessons that can inform prevention efforts today and in the future.

A recent poll by Potloc Research in partnership with the Canadian Public Health Association found almost half of health care workers surveyed said they needed psychological support while 45 per cent said they needed more training. Respondents expressed mostly negative feelings about their work during COVID-19 and report feeling anxious (67%), unsafe (49%), overwhelmed (40%).

Capturing healthcare workers COVID-19 work experiences is the subject of this webinar in the WHSC Confronting COVID-19 series. The webinar reviews the preliminary results of a survey of healthcare workers’ experiences during a pandemic. It is led by John Oudyk, occupational hygienist with our partner organization Occupational Health Clinic for Ontario Workers (OHCOW).

The survey, developed by OHCOW with researchers at the Institute for Work & Health and Duke University in North Carolina, includes input from workers and their representatives from the health care sector. The survey is based on several scientifically-recognized questions that measure different aspects of job-related psychosocial conditions, along with symptoms related to intense stressful conditions and mood disorders.
