Health and safety knowledge and skills shared in a training room can change what happens on a worksite, a shop floor, in an office or any workplace where hazards exist. 

Quality training can help a worker recognize a hazard, and speak up with confidence. For supervisors, it can help them better safeguard workers. For joint health and safety committees, worker health and safety representatives, or worker trades committees it can help them conduct effective inspections and investigations or make sound recommendations for improved hazard controls. 

The key to quality training is a strong instructor who facilitates it.

This fall, Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC) is inviting workers and workplace representatives across Ontario to train as WHSC-qualified instructors. Through this intensive eight-day program, you’ll learn how to lead engaging, action-focused health and safety training and help others put what they learn into practice.

You won’t simply be presenting course material. You’ll be helping workers understand their rights, workplaces strengthen prevention efforts and communities across Ontario become safer and healthier.

Training is free for approved applicants. Each class is limited to 12 participants.

Choose from fall 2026 training dates

Instructor Training runs for eight days from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Applicants must have completed either WHSC Level 1 or WHSC Certification Part I and Part II.

Fall sessions are currently scheduled for:
  • Hamilton: October 13 to 22, 2026*
  • Sudbury: October 13 to 22, 2026*
  • London: October 19 to 28, 2026*
  • Markham: October 19 to 28, 2026*
  • Ottawa: December 7 to 10 and 14 to 17, 2026

*Saturdays and Sundays excluded. 

Additional dates and locations may be added based on demand.

Join a proven ‘workers training workers’ model

WHSC is Ontario’s official government-designated occupational health and safety training centre. WHSC-qualified instructors are at the heart of our work and make our unique ‘workers training workers’ or ‘train the trainer’ model possible.

They bring workplace knowledge, lived experience and practical insight into every course they lead. They help workers, supervisors, employers, joint health and safety committees, worker health and safety representatives and worker trades committees better understand their roles in workplace health and safety.

Every WHSC course is instructor-led and built around clear learning and action objectives. During Instructor Training, participants learn how to apply proven adult education principles and create meaningful learning experiences in both in-person and virtual classrooms.

For potential instructors, it’s an opportunity to strengthen their skills while helping others build the knowledge and skills they need to make a difference at work.

For organizations, it’s an opportunity to build in-house instructor capacity allowing them train on their own time and realize savings too.

WHSC instructors help people build health and safety knowledge and skills by connecting what they learn in the classroom with the situations they face at work. They create space for discussion, encourage participation and help learners identify practical actions they can take to fulfill their role in the workplace and under health and safety law.
