2. Supervisor Health and Safety Training
Supervisors have significant legal responsibilities. They must advise workers of any potential or actual health and safety hazards they are aware of, provide written instructions on protective measures and procedures where required and take every reasonable precaution in the circumstances to protect workers. In addition, supervisors must ensure that workers use or wear the equipment, protective devices, and protective clothing required by their employer and that they perform their duties in accordance with OHSA and its regulations. Technical experience alone doesn’t necessarily prepare someone for these responsibilities. Training can help supervisors understand due diligence, worker rights, JHSC functions, work refusals, inspections and their responsibility to take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances.

3. Working at Heights and Fall Prevention Training
Working at heights training won’t be required in every workplace, but it’s mandatory for many workers on construction projects in all sectors and essential for workers in utilities, maintenance and other jobs involving fall hazards.
 
Ontario regulations require employers to ensure workers in their employ complete a Chief Prevention Officer-approved Working at Heights program before using a fall-restricting system, fall-arrest system, safety net, work belt or safety belt on a construction project.
 
Importantly, construction projects aren’t limited to traditional construction sites. They can also take place in factories, schools, restaurants, offices, film sets and hospitals.

• Working at Heights Training: Approved training covering fall hazards, legal responsibilities, ladders, fall protection systems, equipment inspection, fall clearance and rescue planning. The course also includes a hands-on practicum. Training is led by experienced workers in the trades.
• Working at Heights Refresher Training: Required every three years for affected construction workers to maintain compliance. It reviews fall hazards, equipment, procedures and practical fall protection skills.

4. Traffic Control and Signal Person Training

5. Hazard-Specific Workplace Training

A health care facility may need training on biological hazards, infectious diseases, patient handling or workplace violence. A manufacturing workplace might prioritize WHMIS, machine hazards, ergonomics, lockout or mobile equipment. Outdoor workers may require training related to heat and cold stress.
