As an official Red Cross First Aid and CPR training partner, Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC) is now offering much needed
first aid and CPR training to all workplace parties.
But this training isn’t just a ‘nice to have’. Did you know all businesses covered by the
Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA) are required to have first aid equipment, facilities and trained personnel in all workplaces? WHSC’s delivery of WSIB-approved Red Cross training
meets legislative requirements set out in WSIA. We also offer training that meets the latest cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CRP) guidelines in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). And where needed, we can deliver training that meets Transport Canada requirements as outlined in the Transport Publication (TP) 13008 E.
Participants in WHSC-delivered Red Cross training will learn how to
manage emergency situations, identifying symptoms of a heart attack, and responding appropriately to breathing cessation, bleeding, or head and spine injuries until medical help arrives. This first aid certification covers a wide range of topics including:
- respiratory and cardiac arrest
- head and spine injuries
- bone, muscle and joint injuries
- wound care
- poisons including opioids
- as well as airway, medical and environmental emergencies.
The suite of Red Cross first aid training certification programs we are authorized to deliver includes:
- Basic Life Support
- Basic Life Support (Formerly known as CPR HCP) Recertification

“We are very proud to be partnering with the Red Cross on this important training initiative,” says Andrew Mudge, WHSC Executive Director. “Workers, their representatives, supervisors and employers have long counted on WHSC to provide effective health and safety training. With this trust in mind, we are determined to bring them equally reliable first aid and CPR training. This added level of service we hope gives them
peace of mind and continuity of care as we can now meet a wider continuum of workplace health and safety training needs.”
Like all WHSC programs, these programs are
delivered with the learner in mind. As such, they are
entirely instructor-led to ensure life-saving training is demonstrated, observed, evaluated and ultimately achieved.
Upon completion of any first aid and CPR course we deliver you will receive a record of certification, valid for either one year or three years depending on the training taken. All certificates are issued by the Canadian Red Cross.
To get started with onsite training,
contact a WHSC Training Service Representative in an area near you to discuss your options and schedule training for where and when you need it. Visit our
first aid and CPR training web page for further details. Please note, a full schedule of community-based training is coming this summer and open to all. These opportunities will be helpful in those instances where you have but a few to train.
Need quick compliance with other essential occupational health and safety (OHS) training? See our
catalogue of instructor-led training programs scheduled for delivery in person and online in virtual classes (where appropriate) throughout the year.
