Applicants for the 10th annual WHSC post secondary scholarship initiative are being asked “What are the most effective ways to prevent work-related injuries, illness and death among new workers?” Their response, in words or vision, may secure them one of eight $1,000 scholarships.
New workers, many of whom are also young, are more likely to be injured or killed at work compared to those with more experience. Many point to two reasons for this; hazardous working conditions and a lack of training.
The WHSC annual post secondary scholarship initiative seeks to raise awareness among students about the unacceptable and preventable working conditions responsible for worker suffering and death. Equally important, the WHSC hopes to inspire these young workers or potential workers to use their legal rights and insist on safe working conditions and training from employers.
Applicants for the 10th Annual WHSC Post Secondary Scholarship Initiative have the option of writing an essay or creating a poster relating to the question posed in the introductory paragraph above. Any student residing in Ontario and beginning their first year of full or part-time studies leading to a degree, diploma or certificate from a publicly-funded Ontario College or University is eligible to apply.
The submission deadline for the 2010 WHSC Post Secondary Scholarship Initiative is Friday June 4, 2010.
