Certification Training…last chance to achieve compliance for 2018

Certification Training…last chance to achieve compliance for 2018
WHSC has scheduled joint health and safety committee (JHSC) certification training in communities across Ontario to help employers meet their obligations by year-end.

To begin, Basic Certification Training is scheduled to start Tuesday, December 4 and run through to Friday, December 7. Whereas our most popular Certification Part II sector training, one designed to meet common, significant hazards in the Office and Professional sector, is scheduled for Wednesday, December 12 to Friday, December 14. Again, both these programs are running incommunities province-wide. Be sure to register soon as these programs are filling fast.

JHSC certification compliance

Most workplaces employing 20 or more workers, or using a designated substance must have a JHSC. Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) also requires employers to ensure the certification of at least two JHSC members, one representing workers and one management.

To become certified, a JHSC member must complete a Ministry of Labour-approved Basic Certification Training (Part I) and Workplace-Specific Hazard Certification Training (Part II). These programs must be delivered by an approved provider and must be completed within six months of each other.

Further still is the need to complete approved Certification Refresher Training every three years to maintain certified member status. Those who don’t maintain Certification status are required to retrain in all three parts of Certification Training to regain status.

Employers are required to carry out and pay for all Certification Training.

WHSC Part I, Part II and Certification Refresher Training are MOL-approved and WHSC is an approved training provider.

WHSC training...ensured learning

As Ontario’s government-designated health and safety training centre, WHSC understands when given effective resources, JHSC members can play a key role paving the way to safer, healthier work. These resources must include quality training like that provided by WHSC. Our programs have always been designed to go beyond just legal minimums and ensure real learning is achieved.
